Collection

I saw this awesome little wall near Mayhem cove and I just couldn’t help but think just how cool it must be to have such a fun thing to collect. I remember trying to collect plates but it didn’t last. I would love to collect art, one piece from every country I visit, this one really appeals to me. But for the moment I will have to make do with collecting memories 🙂

Bolton Castle North Yorkshire

“Really, do I have to? You know I’m not a massive fan of castles don’t you?” – There are times I get seriously annoyed with myself. I think it’s just pure laziness on my part cause when I get to where we are going I inevitably enjoy myself (especially if I can take photographs).  I am one of those people who just needs a good kick in the butt often.

Bolton Castle is close to Leyburn in North Yorkshire and dates back to the 14th century. The castle was built by between 1378 and 1399 by the 1st Baron of Scrope and is still owned by the descendants of that family today. The castle is rather interesting to visit because part of it is a ruin and the other isn’t, so it is like having 2 sights in 1.

The castle not only has views over the North Yorkshire countryside but it has a well loved and well maintained garden complete with a maze.

At certain times of the day the castle has a birds of prey show. We unfortunately missed is so I cannot tell you what it was like. Inside the castle it is worth visiting the little shop and they also have a cafe. Behind the castle near the car park is a old church worth seeing.

Another year another trip to Miyajima – I am addicted

Ok I have to admit that Miyajima may be my favourite place in Japan. Although to be honest I like so many places in Japan and for different reasons that it’s really hard to choose a favourite. I have been to Miyajima 3 times now though and thoroughly enjoyed it each and every time. I have also seen new things each time I have been. This time was my first visit to Daishoin Temple and I wish I had been before because photographically it is such an interesting place and I could see myself spending a lot more time there just soaking things in.

The cable car up Mount Misen is well worth it. The walk up to the cable car is pretty too so I never take the little shuttle bus. You want to get there early because the queue can get pretty long and in Japan they do put a lot of people into one little cable car which always freaks me out lol.

A quick trip to Singapore

I have wanted to go to Singapore for awhile now, I have met many people while living in Tokyo who used to live in Singapore and they all loved it! I had to go and see for myself why. I wasn’t disappointed, the place is great it is such a melting pot of cultures, colour, histories, traditions and great food. I can see why so many people love living there.

The first but hopefully not the last trip to Norway.

I cannot believe that I haven’t posted any photographs from our Norway trip. This is a country high up on my bucket list and I am keeping it up there because I don’t feel as though I have seen it properly yet. For one thing it is one seriously long country! Another reason is because we travelled by cruise ship and it just didn’t feel the same as travelling around a country on your own with your own car. I can’t say that I would choose cruise travel again to be honest. But Norway, well I would go back there any day!

a holiday I want to do over and over and over again

We went to Hawaii recently. That beautiful spot in the middle of the ocean that everyone wants to go to and for good reason its f-ing awesome! While living in Japan we knew we had to get across to Hawaii because the chances of us living as close as this again (still a 7-9 hour flight) is slim. Now that I have been though all I want to do is go back. Especially the island of Kauai, that was my favourite and I was very sad to leave it. But I am grateful to have been able to spend some time in paradise.

All I want to do is go back – today if possible 🙂

Ishigaki – take 2

Ok so I am a fan of Okinawa. I have been a few times now and I really enjoy the big island. However Ishigaki is one of those islands I cannot quite figure out whether I like or not. I know that that may sound weird or nasty but it is the truth. This last trip though I think will be my last one there. Of course it doesn’t help that we had a typhoon while there and had to fly back to Tokyo through that typhoon, thats enough to put me off for life lol!

There is one island close to Ishigaki though that I love and that is Taketomi. It is such a cute little island and I have been there twice now and enjoyed it both time.

that autumn feeling

Autumn has become my favourite of all seasons, and I have Japan to thank for that. I have never lived in a country that has the colour and beauty of Japan before. It is my favourite time of the year to travel here and I have never been disappointed. It also helps that the Japanese have an eye for details, Japanese hotels know how to make the most of this season with beautiful rooms, with beautiful windows showing the splendour outside.

This time we travelled to Oirase gorge in Aomori prefecture. This prefecture is famous for apples as well. We had a lot of rain and bad weather but it didn’t take away from just how beautiful this autumn viewing spot is. Anyway I hope that the pictures tell the story.
