Our last trip of 2016 and the last prefecture of Japan that my husband had left to see, that’s right he has now been to all 47 out of 47 prefectures. Pretty cool hey! Myself and the kids are still 6 prefectures away but we’ll get there.
Anyway, we were expecting a little bit of snow that far north but alas the weather in Japan (like the rest of the world) has been a little odd and we have been warmer than normal. So although Aomori city is meant to be one of the snowiest cities in the world, we had no snow. Still we got to see it and we hope to go again for the autumn colours one year.
Hakodate is a really cool place, it was bitterly cold and had no snow but it has a feel about it and reminds me a lot of Yokohama near Tokyo. Of course the fact that it is in Hokkaido helps as that is my favourite part of Japan. Anyway on to some pics hey, I don’t have that many as we weren’t there that long.
The pimple – thats what I called the island cause I don’t know what its actually called lol
Remember to slow down and enjoy yourselves in 2017 – 2016 went to fast.
Beautiful entertainment courtesy of our beautiful ryokan.
It was cold and it was windy but it was worth it, watching the sunset out over a lonely sea.
Famous burger place in Hakodate – I don’t personally eat burgers but the building looked cool!
The old foreigner area of Hakodate is really nice to walk around. Lots of different churches and many different types of buildings.
Famous street in Hakodate used in lots of TV commercials.
Santa is always watching – was very useful for getting our kids to behave lol
Near the old fort in Hakodate is a tower you can go up for the views, it really is a great view. On the other side of the city you can take a cable car up to see the views but it was so windy while we were there that it was closed. The fort itself though is worth a visit, especially in the snow but from photographs I have seen spring looks beautiful too.
Of course when it does snow you have to put on something really warm grab and camera and head out! We only got a brief snow and it was after the sun had set but it was snow and I love snow!
I always enjoy Hokkaido and I really liked Hakodate. I didn’t see enough of Aomori to do it justice but then it was Christmas Day and all was quiet. Maybe one day I will get a chance to go back.
