On the Shiretoko Peninsula there is the Shiretoko Goko lakes walk, (5 lakes walks). The first section of it has been left wild and you have to sit through a talk on the dangers of bears and what to do if you encounter one on the walk. This is all fine, but my son left the room crying cause he was now petrified that he would see a bear, my little daughter however went running out the room going “bear where are you?!”. Ah the joy of travelling with children!
It is a very pretty walk. The second section of it is a wooden raised boardwalk with electric fencing which is open all year round. For me the 1st part was the best but both are good.
